Delhi Capitals (DC) have faced a big blow in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as one of their key batters and vice-captain Faf du Plessis is going to miss a few games in the tournament. Du Plessis was not part of the Capitals’ playing XI against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday, April 13.
DC skipper Axar Patel revealed during the toss that du Plessis was left out of the game due to an injury. Notably, the former South Africa skipper sustained an injury while fielding during DC’s last game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
Faf du Plessis to miss next few games in IPL 2025
During a chat with Star Sports ahead of DC vs MI clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Faf revealed he regrets the decision of not playing as an Impact Player in the previous game, which was offered to him by the team. He also added that he will miss a few more games in IPL 2025.
“Unfortunately, my nature… the boys offered me the chance to play as an impact batsman in the last game but the competitor in me wanted to field as well, and I regret that decision standing here right now. Unfortunately, today, I’m not wearing the spikes,” the 40-year-old said.
“The competent in me wants to get back as soon as possible, but playing the patient game. Hopefully, I get that right in the next week and get ready for the back end of the tournament,” the right-handed batsman added.
Du Plessis has only featured in three games for the Capitals out of five so far, including the ongoing clash against MI. He has hit 81 runs across three innings with a top knock of 50. He scored those runs at a stupendous batting strike rate of 155.76.
He got out for two runs in DC’s last atch against RCB. Earlier, he slammed 50 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and 29 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). DC acquired him for INR 2 crores at the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Meanwhile, DC are the most successful team in IPL 2025 so far, winning all four of their games. They have eight points and occupy the top spot in the points table.
