Riyan Parag has lost his first two matches as Rajasthan Royals’ captain in IPL 2025.

Riyan Parag’s first two games as Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) captain have not gone as planned. After losing their opening match of Indian Premier League (IPL) against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), the franchise suffered another defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.

After being asked to bat first, the inaugural IPL winners struggled to gain momentum and were restricted to a small total of 151 runs in 20 overs. Captain Riyan Parag was one of only three batsmen to cross the 20-run mark, scoring 25 off 15 balls.

In the second innings, RR failed to match KKR’s control in the middle overs and were undone by Quinton de Kock, who top-scored with 97 off 61 balls to guide the visitors to a comfortable eight-wicket win.

A heartwarming moment occurred during the 12th over of the second innings when a fan invaded the pitch to hug local hero Riyan Parag, who was bowling his fourth over of the game.

During the 12th over of the second innings, a fan invaded the pitch to meet Riyan. The fan even went on to touch the 23-year-old’s feet, who hails from Guwahati itself.

The defeat has set alarm bells ringing for RR, who now sit at the bottom of the points table with no wins from two games. The magnitude of their losses has resulted in a poor NRR of -1.882.

They will now host Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their next game Guwahati. The franchise will need to rotate the strike better in the middle overs to put up a strong batting performance against CSK’s potent spin trio of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Noor Ahmad.

On a positive note, Sanju Samson is expected to return as the team’s skipper from their fourth game of the season onwards.
