Glenn Maxwell scored 48 runs and picked four wickets across seven games in IPL 2025.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) have been dealt with a big blow in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as their key batting all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of the tournament. PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer revealed about Maxwell’s ouster ahead of the match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Wednesday, April 30.

The CSK vs PBKS encounter is currently underway at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. It is the 49th match of IPL 2025. Both sides also clashed earlier in the tournament in the 22nd game of the season. Iyer-led PBKS won the clash by 18 runs at home. The hosts would be looking to avenge the defeat they suffered earlier this season.

Glenn Maxwell ruled out of IPL 2025 due to a fractured finger

PBKS skipper Iyer won the toss in the clash against CSK and opted to bowl first in the match. After the toss, he revealed that Maxwell is not part of the playing XI. He also added that the Aussie all-rounder has sustained a fractured finger and the team is yet to decide on his replacement. Notably, Maxwell was part of PBKS’s last match.

“We’re going to bowl first. We’ll focus on our process. Our preparations have been intact. Boys are in high spirits and looking forward to a great game. Unfortunate that he’s got a fractured finger (Maxwell). Haven’t decided on a replacement so far,” the right-handed batsman said.

Maxwell largely failed to make an impact in the tournament. The right-handed batsman got out for low scores across his seven innings. He managed to score only 48 runs at a poor average of 8.0. He also struggled with his strike rate at 97.96. His top score was just 30 runs.

With the ball, he picked four wickets while bowling at an economy rate of 8.46. He bowled in six games out of seven and picked one wicket each in four of those. He went wicketless in two games. PBKS had bought Maxwell for Rs. 4.20 crores at the IPL 2025 mega auction.
