IPL 2025: Gujarat Titans' Glenn Phillips ruled out of remainder of the tournament; Flies back home

Glenn Phillips was bought by GT at the IPL 2025 auction for INR 2 crores.
Due to a groin injury, New Zealand‘s Glenn Phillips, an all-rounder with the Gujarat Titans (GT), will miss the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Regarding the all-rounder’s injury, GT have released an official statement stating that he has returned to New Zealand and will miss the rest of the season.
During the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where New Zealand placed second to India, Phillips was a vital member of the team. At the IPL 2025 mega-auction, GT bought him for his base price of Rs 2 crores. Phillips hasn’t appeared in any of the Titans’ games this season, though.
Phillips injured himself after he had come to the field as a substitute during GT’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 6. The injury happened on the powerplay’s final over. Phillips tried to toss the ball while covering the point area and seems to have hurt his groin.
Glenn Phillips flies back home to New Zealand
The physiotherapist with GT hurried to help the 28-year-old as he slumped on the field in agony. Following a protracted wait, a teammate assisted Phillips in leaving the field for additional medical attention.
“Glenn Phillips has returned to New Zealand following a groin injury he sustained during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 6. Gujarat Titans wish Glenn a speedy recovery.” Cricbuzz had quoted a statement from the Gujarat Titans.
With Phillips’s injury, GT have lost the services of two of their overseas players in the ongoing season. Earlier, Kagiso Rabada, the South African pacer, had flown back home to a personal emergency. The team has yet to announce a replacement for either player, and Rabada’s return date remains uncertain.
This means GT have only 5 overseas players in their contingent Jos Buttler, Sherfane Rutherford, Rashid Khan, Gerald Coetzee, and Karim Janat.
With eight points from five games, GT are presently leading the IPL 2025 standings. After losing their first match against Punjab Kings, they defeated the Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals in back-to-back victories.
On April 12, the Titans will play the Lucknow Super Giants in an attempt to extend their winning streak.
