GT bought Kagiso Rabada for INR 10.75 crores at the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Gujarat Titans (GT) assistant coach Aashish Kapoor has provided a crucial update on Kagiso Rabada’s return to ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The South African pacer left the tournament midway due to a family emergency.
Rabada was part of GT’s first two games in the tournament. He played against Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI). In both games, he picked one wicket. Notably, GT have not named any replacement for the Proteas pacer so far.
We are waiting for Kagiso Rabada to return: GT Assistant Coach Aashish Kapoor
Ahead of GT’s home clash against Delhi Capitals, GT’s assistant coach Aashish Kapoor informed that they are still waiting for Rabada to return. Hence they haven’t named a replacement for him yet.
“We picked Dasun Shanaka as the replacement for Glenn Phillips, but I don’t know about the replacement for Kagiso Rabada, that’s new to me. We are just waiting for him, he might just return,” Kapoor was quoted as saying.
“There is a chance that he might join, but he has got some family problem, for which he has gone. Once he is sorted out with that in time, he will be back. We don’t know when, and we’re just waiting as everyone else,” he further added.
The Shubman Gill & Co. will play their seventh game of the league against DC on Saturday, April 19. The venue of the match is Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Rabada has already missed the first half of the season. He might return for the last few games or the playoffs. Notably, the right-arm speedster was part of Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the last season.
GT bought him for INR 10.75 crores at the IPL 2025 mega auction. He was the third costliest player for the franchise during the auction after Jos Buttler (INR 15.75 crores) and Mohammed Siraj (INR 12.25 crores). Meanwhile, GT take the second spot in IPL 2025 points table with four victories. They have played six games in the tournament and lost only two clashes.
