Jasprit Bumrah will miss the first few matches of IPL 2025.

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has returned to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru after his last visit over a week ago. The 31-year-old has returned to assess his readiness for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) and seek clearance to play. The status of his availability will also be determined during this visit.

During his last visit, the Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer experienced some discomfort while bowling and was advised specific exercises by the NCA managers.

Bumrah sustained a back injury during the Sydney test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. The leading wicket-taker of the series with 32 scalps, he was unable to bowl in the second innings of the test.

The star speedster even missed out on India’s final squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 after initially being part of the provisional squad.

When asked about Bumrah in the pre-season press conference on March 19, Mumbai Indians (MI) coach Mahela Jayawardene had expressed optimism about his comeback.

Jayawardene said, “He just started that progress. We have to wait and see what their feedback is on him. At the moment, everything is going well but obviously, it is on a day-to-day basis, the progress. He is in good spirits and hopefully, he can join the team sooner.

MI will start their IPL 2025 campaign against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday, March 23, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The franchise will also be without their regular skipper, Hardik Pandya, due to the suspension handed last season for a slow over rate. Suryakumar Yadav will be leading the side in his stead.

The five-time winners have assembled one of the most formidable pace attacks in the tournament, featuring Bumrah, Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar, and Corbin Bosch. They will look to end their four-year trophy drought this year.
