IPL 2025: "We left 20-30 runs out there.." LSG coach Lance Klusener after 1-wicket loss to DC

LSG didn’t score enough runs against DC, feels Lance Klusener.
After the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) lost to the Delhi Capitals (DC) by one wicket in Monday’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match, their assistant coach Lance Klusener placed the responsibility on the team’s hitters. Klusener claimed that the batters fell 20 or 30 runs short while failing to score enough runs.
Axar Patel decided to bowl first after DC won the toss. Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran contributed 87 runs for the second wicket, while Aiden Markram was dismissed for 15 runs. Pooran scored 75 runs off 30 balls with six fours and seven sixes, while Marsh scored 72 runs off 36 balls with six fours and six sixes.
After they were dismissed, David Miller’s 27* in 19 balls helped LSG, who appeared to be scoring more than 220 runs, to 209/8 in 20 overs. Kuldeep Yadav claimed two wickets for DC, while Mitchell Starc claimed three.
Ashutosh Sharma and Vipraj Nigam win it for DC out of nowhere
DC lost three early wickets to seven runs at the beginning of their chase, which was a terrible start. Axar Patel (22) and Faf du Plessis (29) helped to steady the ship a little, but by the time they left and Tristan Stubbs (34) was removed, DC was reeling at 113/6 in 12.3 overs.
However, some outstanding big-hitting gave Ashutosh Sharma and Vipraj Nigam some massive overs. On his debut, Nigam scored 39 runs in 15 balls with five fours and two sixes, while he and Ashutosh added 55 runs in just 22 balls.
As DC won the match with one wicket remaining, Ashutosh remained undefeated at 66 in 31 balls with five fours and five sixes.
“We didn’t score enough runs”- Lance Klusener of LSG
Following the game, LSG assistant coach Lance Klusener claimed that the batters fell 20 or 30 runs short while failing to score enough runs. His comments followed LSG skipper Rishabh Pant’s assessment that his team had scored enough runs in Visakhapatnam.
The former pacer for South Africa, Klusener, refuted Pant’s statements and blamed the LSG batters.
“If I have to put a finger on it, I would like to say we’ve probably left 20 or 30 runs with the bat out there. That was probably why we ended up being under pressure with the ball. I thought they [DC] finished well with the bat, but the reason why we’re in that position is because we didn’t score enough runs, which we should have. I thought when the bowlers got it right, there was a little bit of spin, so I thought it was a very good wicket. There was a little bit in there for everybody,” Lance Klusener was quoted by India Today.
“I thought bowling was probably a little bit rougher than the batting, but that’s why I’m saying possibly with the experience and the batting power we have, I think we left a few runs out there this evening. I think we play in three days, so we’ve got to just make sure the youngsters are positive. We need to keep them believing in their ability,” he added.
DC will next face Sunrisers Hyderabad in Vishakapatnam on March 30 in a day game.
