Punjab Kings (PBKS) have suffered a big blow in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as their overseas pacer Lockie Ferguson will be most likely get ruled out of remainder of the tournament.
Notably, Ferguson suffered an injury in PBKS’ last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). After bowling just two balls in the match, the right-arm pacer injured his left leg. He was accompanied by team physios off the field.
The Shreyas Iyer & Co. also lost the game after failing to defend their first innings total of 245/6, and Ferguson’s ouster was one of the crucial reasons for the same. SRH pulled off the second-highest successful ever chase in IPL history with Abhishek Sharma’s impeccable century (141).
Lockie Ferguson is out indefinitely: PBKS assistant coach
During a chat with reporters, PBKS’ assistant coach James Hopes revealed that Ferguson will not be able to return to the tournament as he has faced a severe injury. The franchise has not revealed the nature of the injury so far, but it looks like a muscle strain or a hamstring.
“Ferguson is out indefinitely, and us getting him back by the end of the tournament is a very low percentage. I think he’s done a real decent injury to himself,” Hopes said.
Ferguson has played five games in IPL 2025 so far and accounts for five wickets at an economy of 9.17. He picked up two-wicket hauls against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) earlier. In his first game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), he scalped one wicket.
PBKS bought the Kiwi speedster for INR 2 crores at the IPL 2025 mega auction. After his ouster, the Shreyas Iyer & Co. will have to find a suitable replacement in the playing XI. Afghanistan pacer Azmatullah Omarzai and domestic pacer Vyshak Vijaykumar are some options for the same.
