IPL 2025: Punjab Kings announce Glenn Maxwell's replacement for remainder of the season

Glenn Maxwell has been out of IPL 2025 due to a finger injury.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) have named replacement for injured Glenn Maxwell for the remainder of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Maxwell sustained a finger injury in IPL 2025 and has been ruled out of the tournament.
Maxwell was also absent from PBKS’s last match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), which they won by four wickets. PBKS skipper Iyer revealed during the toss in the previous game that Maxwell has sustained a broken finger and will be replaced by the franchise soon.
The Australia star had a dismal form in the tournament. He added just 48 runs across seven games with a top knock of 30. He had a poor batting average of 8.0 and a strike rate of 97.96, getting out for low scores in all games. Maxwell clinched four wickets with the ball at an economy of 8.46.
Mitch Owen is the replacement for Maxwell in IPL 2025
The Shreyas Iyer-led side have named Mitch Owen as the replacement for the batting all-rounder. Maxwell’s replacement Owen is an all-rounder from Australia, who belongs to the Tasmania county. He is an uncapped player who has played 34 T20s so far. He accounts for 646 runs with a top knock of 108. He has also scalped 10 wickets in T20s.
He bats right-handed and bowls right-arm medium. He is a middle-order batsman. PBKS have inducted Owen into their squad at INR 3 crores. He is 23 years old and plays for Hobart Hurricanes in Australia’s Big Bash League. Owen earned recognition after hitting a century for Hobart Hurricanes in the final of BBL 2024-25 against Sydney Thunder, which resulted in a win. Owen has also played 14 First-Class matches and 17 List A games in Australia’s domestic circuit.
Meanwhile, PBKC have shown a marvellous form in IPL 2025. They have won six games and lost three out of 10. One of their games ended with no result as it was washed out due to rain. With 13 points, the IPL 2014 runners-up grab the fourth spot in the points table. They will clash with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their next match on Sunday, May 4.
