Yuzvendra Chahal has picked 14 wickets in 12 games in IPL 2025.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) have suffered a massive blow in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as their key spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is facing an injury scare. Notably, Chahal was rested for the previous clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday.
PBKS lost the match by six wickets in the end. During the post-match match conference, PBKS assistant coach Sunil Joshi confirmed that Chahal was rested in the match due to a niggle. Chahal’s absence was highly felt during the clash, as the Shreyas Iyer & Co. failed to defend their mammoth total of 206/8 in the match.
DC batters smacked PBKS bowlers all over the park to grab a big victory. Praveen Dubey was picked as a replacement for Chahal in the match. He picked one wicket. However, he was only given two overs and emerged highly expensive with an economy of 10.0.
Yuzvendra Chahal has picked 14 wickets in 12 games
Chahal has picked 14 wickets in 12 games for PBKS in IPL 2025. The right-arm spinner has an economy of 9.56 and has picked up two four-wicket hauls in the tournament. He also picked a fabulous hat-trick against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) earlier to script another record.
PBKS assistant coach Joshi did not reveal the details of Chahal’s injury. Notably, Chahal’s niggle can be a big issue for PBKS, who still have an opportunity to secure a top-two finish in the points table. PBKS will play one more game against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the league stage. They need to win the match to confirm their top-two finish in the points table.
Four teams have already secured qualification for the playoffs in IPL 2025. They are Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Gujarat Titans (GT), and MI. All four teams are also still fighting for the top two spot in the points table to better their chances of reaching the final.
As of now, GT and PBKS hold the top two spots in the points table with 18 and 17 points respectively. PBKS have reached the playoffs after a gap of 10 seasons.
