Punjab Kings will face RCB in Qualifier 1 of the IPL 2025.

The league stage of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is done and dusted. It’s now time for the playoffs of the league, which will begin on Thursday, May 28. Qualifier 1 and Eliminator will be played in Chandigarh, while Qualifier 2 and Final will take place in Ahmedabad.

Punjab Kings (PBKS), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI) are the four teams that have qualified for the playoffs. All these teams were brilliant with bat and ball, and with the kind of cricket they played, it promises to be an enthralling next stage of the league.

Coming to the Punjab Kings, the combination of Ricky Ponting and skipper Shreyas Iyer has done wonders. For the first time in 11 years, the franchise has qualified for the playoffs, and they will now be eager to capitalise on the start and lift the IPL trophy for the first time.

Punjab Kings have been dominating in the IPL 2025. The youngsters, along with skipper Shreyas Iyer, have been top-notch. They ended the league stage at the top of the points table with 19 points under their belt. The franchise secured 9 wins, 4 losses, and one match was washed out due to rain.

Punjab Kings, who are among the four IPL teams that have not won the title, are one of the favourites to win the trophy this season. Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, the franchise would want to etch their name in the record books, and if they play to their potential, no one can stop them from lifting the title.

The first playoff match of the Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 will be against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The two teams will face each other in Qualifier 1 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh on Thursday, May 29.

One of the biggest challenges for Punjab Kings will be handling pressure in the playoffs. This is because the franchise hasn’t made many appearances in the knockout stage, and hence, they need to bring their best with the bat and ball.

PBKS’s record in Qualifier 1 of the IPL:

Punjab Kings have qualified for the playoffs only twice before the IPL 2025. Out of these two appearances, they have only once managed to play Qualifier 1. It came during the 2014 edition under the leadership of George Bailey.

In Qualifier 1 of IPL 2014, Punjab Kings defeated Kolkata Knight Riders and qualified for the final. This will give them confidence as they have a 100% win rate in Qualifier 1. They would be keen to win against RCB and book their berth in the final.
