Bengaluru police has arrested an employee of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise in the Bengaluru stampede case. RCB Head of Marketing and Revenue has been arrested by the police in the matter.
The Rajat Patidar-led RCB won the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 title by defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the final on June 3. As a result, the RCB franchise and Karnataka State Cricket Association organized victory celebrations on the following day in Bengaluru.
A victory parade was organized near the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Also, the players were felicitated inside the stadium. However, due to mismanagement, a stampede occurred near one of the gates of the stadium. 11 people lost their lives in the stampede while several others were injured. After the deadly incident, police filed cases against RCB franchise and the event organisers, DNA entertainment in the matter.
Karnataka CM orders arrest of RCB employee in Bengaluru stampede case
Notably, RCB’s employee’s arrest comes following the orders of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The Karnataka CM has also ordered the arrest of DNA Entertainment employees in the matter. As a result, senior event manager and vice president (Business Affairs) of DNA Entertainment have also been arrested by the Bengaluru police.
Interestingly, the Karnataka Chief Minister was also part of the RCB’s victory celebrations. Ahead of RCB’s felicitation ceremony inside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, the chief minister and other leaders felicitated the RCB players at Vidhan Soudha.
However, the State Government also clarified that they did not organize the event and only felicitated the players as it was a Bengaluru-based team. After the stampede incident, the Karnataka CM also visited the hospital to meet with the victims.
Following the incident, the RCB franchise paid condolences to the victims on X (formerly Twitter). They also offered financial support of INR 10 lakhs to the families of the departed.
