The IPL retention rules state that an uncapped player will be valued at INR 4 crores.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council announced the IPL retention rules and player regulations on Saturday, September 28, for the IPL 2025 mega auction and beyond.

The franchises have been given the deadline till 5 PM on October 31 to submit the list of their retained players for the mega auction that is expected to be held in November or December.

Each franchise can retain a maximum of six players through retentions and the Right To Match (RTM) option. Teams are free to use as many retentions and RTMs under this limit with the restriction of a maximum of five capped players (Indian and overseas) and a maximum of two uncapped players.

The purse for each team has been increased to INR 120 crores from INR 100 crores from the last auction.

IPL 2025 mega auction: What is the salary slab for retained players?

The five capped player retention slabs will be valued as follows:

Direct RetentionPlayer Value
Retained Player 1INR 18 crores
Retained Player 2INR 14 crores
Retained Player 3INR 11 crores
Retained Player 4INR 18 crores
Retained Player 5INR 14 crores

Also, each uncapped player retained will be valued at INR 4 crores, the same value as the previous mega auction.

This means that if a franchise retains six players (five capped and one uncapped) with these given salary slabs, INR 79 crores will be slashed from their purse and they will head into the mega auction with only INR 41 crores.

Can a player be retained for more than INR 18 crore?

Yes, a player can be retained for more than INR 18 crore, which is the highest bracketed value. In that case, the additional amount will be deducted from the team’s purse.
