IPL 2025: RR captain Sanju Samson travels to BCCI CoE; Know the reason why

Sanju Samson has featured in three games for RR in IPL 2025 as an impact player.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) finally got moving on the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 points table after securing a six-run win against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday, March 30, in Guwahati.

After being asked to bat first, the Royals were guided by Nitish Rana, who smashed 81 off just 36 balls, including 10 fours and five sixes, to propel the team to 182 runs.

In the bowling department, the franchise witnessed match-winning performance from overseas superstars Jofra Archer and Wanindu Hasaranga, who registered figures of 1/13 and 4/35 respectively. MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja fought till the end, but Sandeep Sharma held his nerve to defend 20 runs in the final over.

RR’s regular skipper, Sanju Samson, has now traveled to the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, which was previously known as the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Samson has traveled to BCCI’s CoE to seek clearance for wicket-keeping. The Indian keeper-batter flew from Guwahati to Bengaluru on Monday (March 31) to get full clearance from the CoE managers.

Earlier, Samson had received only partial and temporary permission to play in the ongoing IPL after undergoing surgery on his right index finger. Now, he will undergo testing by the Sports Science wing at the CoE and seek approval to resume his full duties.

If given permission, Sanju will return as captain of the side against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 5 in Mullanpur. So far, he has registered scores of 66, 13, and 20 against SRH, KKR, and CSK, respectively.

The Royals have had a mixed start to the season and have won just one of their first three matches. They will look to build on their winning momentum and string together a few more victories to climb up the points table.
