Sanju Samson suffered an injury in RR’s last match against DC.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper Sanju Samson is expected to miss his side’s next clash in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, which they will play against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). RR head coach Rahul Dravid has provided an update about his injury.

The right-handed batsman faced a minor injury while batting during RR’s last match against Delhi Capitals (DC). He was hit on the left side around his rib off Vipraj Nigam’s delivery. Later, he retired hurt in the match after hitting 31 runs off 19 balls. He did not arrive to bat later in the match. Eventually, RR lost the match to DC in the Super Over.

We are waiting for Sanju Samson’s injury scans: RR Head Coach Rahul Dravid

Ahead of RR’s next match against LSG, head coach Rahul Dravid has provided an update on Samson’s injury. Dravid informed that they are waiting for the results of the scans and will make a decision later.

“Sanju experienced a bit of pain in the abdominal area. So we have gone for scans. He has done some scans today, so we are waiting for the results of those scans. And then once we get a bit more clarity around the scans and the severity of the injury, we’ll take a decision going forward and we’ll see what happens,”Dravid said.

Notably, Samson did not lead the team in RR’s first three games of the season due to a finger injury. He underwent finger surgery ahead of IPL 2025. He was advised not to keep the stumps. As a result, he only played as an Impact Player for first three games. Riyan Parag led the side in Samson’s absence. Later, the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru cleared him to resume wicket-keeping duties and then he took the reins of the side.

However, RR have performed poorly in the tournament so far. They have won only two games out of seven and lost five. With four points, the one-time champions take the eighth spot in the points table. The RR skipper has slammed 224 runs across seven games at a strike rate of 143.58.

He has scored one half-century. He is the second-highest run-getter for the team after Yashasvi Jaiswal. The RR vs LSG is the 36th match of IPL 2025 and will take place at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Saturday, April 19.
