IPL 2025: Sunrisers Hyderabad rope in Harsh Dubey as Smaran Ravichandran's injury replacement

Sunrisers Hyderabad are placed ninth in the ongoing IPL 2025 points table.

After suffering an injury, 22-year-old Karnataka batter Smaran Ravichandran, who had taken Adam Zampa’s place in the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) side, would miss the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Harsh Dubey will take his place in the squad.

Smaran’s journey was cut short by an untimely injury even before he had the opportunity to make his debut in the ongoing IPL 2025.

Harsh Dubey joined SRH when Smaran was sidelined. The 22-year-old, who plays domestic cricket for Vidarbha, is an all-around left-arm spin bowler. When he broke the record for the most wickets in a Ranji Trophy season during the most recent domestic season, he made headlines.

Vidarbha won the title with 69 wickets taken by Harsh Dubey. The Vidarbha star did not receive a single bid at the auction, despite having a tremendous season in domestic cricket. He now joins SRH for INR 30 lakhs.

“Harsh Dubey joins the squad as a replacement for Smaran, who is ruled out due to injury,” SRH posted on X.

Harsh Dubey’s record in Indian domestic cricket

In List A cricket, Harsh Dubey has taken 21 wickets from 20 bowling innings at an average of 34.66, while in T20 cricket, he has taken nine wickets from 16 bowling innings at an economy rate of 6.78. These are his mediocre returns in white-ball formats. However, since the Ranji Trophy, his stock has increased.

He enters the IPL with SRH’s 2025 campaign virtually finished, having advanced to the IPL 2024 final. SRH is currently in ninth place in the standings after winning just three of its ten games thus far. They can only reach 14 points even if they win their final four games, so they will need to hope that a few of the top-performing teams go on a losing streak.

Among the 10 teams, including the already-eliminated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), their current net run rate of -1.192 is the lowest. On Monday night, SRH will play the Delhi Capitals (DC) at home in Hyderabad.
