IPL 2025: "MS Dhoni finished" fans react as Dhoni fails to chase 20 runs in last over in RR vs CSK clash

MS Dhoni scored 16 runs against RR in IPL 2025.
On Sunday, March 30, Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by six runs in the 11th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
After being asked to bat first, Rajasthan Royals were led by Nitish Rana, who smashed 81 off 36 balls, including 10 fours and five sixes. The southpaw received support from captain Riyan Parag, who chipped in with 37 runs, helping RR post a competitive 182/9.
In CSK’s bowling attack, Noor Ahmad and Khaleel Ahmed stood out, claiming two wickets each, while Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja picked up a wicket apiece. Jamie Overton’s dropped catch of Shimron Hetmyer early in his innings proved costly, potentially making a difference of 10-12 runs in the end.
In reply, CSK lost opener Rachin Ravindra for a duck in the first over to Jofra Archer. Ruturaj Gaikwad then stabilized the innings with a well-compiled 63 off 44 balls. However, despite holding one end, he found little support as wickets kept tumbling at the other.
Rahul Tripathi (23) and Shivam Dube (18) got starts but failed to convert them into big scores. After facing heavy criticism for batting too late against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), MS Dhoni walked in with four overs remaining.
The 43-year-old started slowly by rotating the strike with singles, but his slow start left CSK needing 39 off the last two overs. Dhoni then unleashed his power and smashed a six and a four off Tushar Deshpande in the 19th over before Ravindra Jadeja smashed a six off the last ball and brought the equation down to 20 runs required off the final over.
After the first ball of the over was called wide, Dhoni was caught off Sandeep Sharma’s first legal delivery, courtesy of a brilliant catch by Shimron Hetmyer. His 16 off 11 balls wasn’t enough, as CSK fell six runs short in the chase.
Dhoni’s inability to finish the game sparked criticism on social media, with many suggesting that he should retire from the IPL and make way for younger players.
Here’s how the cricket fraternity reacted to MS Dhoni’s inability to finish the game in Match 11 of IPL 2025
