PBKS vs DC, 58th match of IPL 2025, was abandoned during 11th over in 1st innings.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) were locking horns in the 58th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Thursday, May 8. However, the match was called off during the 11th over of the first innings. The venue of the encounter was Himachal Pradesh Cricket Stadium in Dharamsala.
After rain delayed the toss by 1 hour and 15 minutes, PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bat first in the match. They did not make any changes to the playing XI from the last game. Also, the home team needed to defeat DC to confirm their berth in the playoffs. PBKS were on the way to a wonderful start in the clash.
Their openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh etched an opening stand of 122 runs in 10 overs. While Arya got out for 70 runs, Singh was at the crease with his score reading unbeaten 50. As PBKS lost their first wicket and one-down Iyer arrived on the field, and the match was halted.
Possible reasons for cancellation of PBKS vs DC game
At first, it was mentioned that two floodlights out of four were not working, and the match will be resumed soon. However, the match was called off later as all the floodlights stopped due to a power outage. Also, the crowd inside HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala was asked to vacate quickly. The match was then called off with PBKS reaching 122/1 on the scoreboard after 10.1 overs.
Notably the IPL chairman Arun Dhumal, who belongs to Himachal Pradesh, was seen asking crowd to vacate the ground after the match was called off. However, the BCCI is yet to release an official word on the match.
Some reports are making the rounds on social media that the encounter was called off due to security reasons. Notably, India and Pakistan are witnessing political tensions in the North West regions after the Operation Sindoor by Indian Armed Forces. Under Operation Sindoor, Indian forces attacked nine terror camps inside Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK).
This was done in response to the Pahalgam terror attack by a Pakistan-based terror outfit last month. However, Pakistan Army has also retaliated against the Indian forces after the attack. As a result, airports and air travel across Indian cities near Pakistan border have been affected.
Dharamsala city is one of them. Also, the Government of India launched security drills in some cities across India and Dharamsala city might have witnessed the same during the 58th match of IPL 2025.
Earlier, there were reports that the PBKS vs DC match might be shifted to Mumbai due to security reasons. However, the match commenced in Dharamsala as planned. However, it could not be completed. The next match scheduled in Dharamsala is already moved out to Ahmedabad.
