IPL 2025: Will Ruturaj Gaikwad get his full salary of INR 18 crores after getting ruled out midway through the tournament?

Ruturaj Gaikwad played five matches for CSK in the IPL 2025 before being ruled out due to injury.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain, was ruled out of the rest of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. This happened after he suffered an injury during CSK’s clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR).
Gaikwad sustained the injury on March 30 during CSK’s game against RR in Guwahati. After missing the ball in the second over of CSK’s fruitless chase and stepping out to fast bowler Tushar Deshpande, he was hit on his uncovered elbow. Despite this, he continued to bat and finished the game with 63.
Following that, he participated in two more games, scoring five against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in Chennai on April 5 and one against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Mullanpur on April 8. With 122 runs at a strike rate of 150.61 after five games, he was CSK’s second-highest run scorer this season.
Former CSK captain MS Dhoni has taken over the leadership duties for the rest of the IPL 2025. The 43-year-old Dhoni captained CSK from 2008 to 2015, before returning again in 2018. He then relinquished captaincy before 2022 season only to return as captain in between the tournament. Then before the 2024 season, he stepped down and handed over the role to Ruturaj Gaikwad.
CSK won two Champions League trophies and five IPL crowns under Dhoni’s leadership in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023.
Will Ruturaj Gaikwad get his full salary of INR 18 crores after getting ruled out mid-way through the tournament?
Before the IPL 2025 mega auction, Ruturaj Gaikwad was retained by CSK for INR 18 crores, and many have questioned what will happen to the payments now that he is injured and ruled out of remainder of the tournament. Every player contracted to any of the franchises is insured by the IPL for the length of the tournament.
Now that Gaikwad is injured and will not take part further in the tournament, the franchise will pay the full amount to the cricketer. This money will come from the insurance policy that was taken out so that it doesn’t burden the franchise’s wallet.
In addition to that, the CSK franchise will bear all the medical expenses of Gaikwad for the treatment he is getting.
However, the per-match fees that Gaikwad was supposed to get for the IPL 2025 will be forfeited as he is no longer part of the squad.
