Ishan Kishan last played for India in the five-match T20I series against Australia in November-December 2023.
Indian wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan, despite not playing the ongoing five-match test series between India and England, is continuously making headlines apart from veteran batter Virat Kohli, who is also missing the ongoing series due to personal reasons.
Ever since Ishan Kishan pulled out of India’s tour of South Africa earlier this year, the wicket-keeper batter has remained out of cricketing action for a while despite getting directives from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Indian head coach Rahul Dravid to start playing in domestic cricket.
Earlier Ishan Kishan was seen training in Baroda along with Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya, but at the same time Kishan was also spotted spending his time with his family, which is helping the Indian wicket-keeper batter get back on track.
Since then, Ishan’s name has been constantly in the headlines for the last two months, with various theories of why he is taking this indefinite break from international cricket.
According to reports from Indian Express, Ishan Kishan asked for a break due to mental fatigue he got since the ODI World Cup final loss in Ahmedabad against Australia in 2023, and Kishan is on his way to make a comeback for the Indian side.
“He had never complained about it but the ODI World Cup final loss in Ahmedabad, like the billions in our country, has left him shattered. He wanted the break right after the tournament but was asked by the management to play and he did it without asking any questions. He tried to push his body and brain but mental fatigue caught up with him and it was only then that he requested a break,” the report quoted a source as saying.
The report further added that Kishan is expected to make his return in the DY Patil T20 tournament, for which he will also seek a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the BCCI.
“He will ask for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the board. He will be playing for the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). He wants to earn his spot in India’s T20 World Cup squad with a good outing in the IPL. It is a long road but the hunger to play cricket is back and he wants to play in all three formats,” said a source.
