Ishan Kishan last played for India in the T20I series against Australia in November 2023.

Indian wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan is expected to participate in the DY Patil Tournament in Mumbai ahead of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). Ishan Kishan was on a mental health break after receiving permission from the BCCI.

However, during the said break, Kishan almost had no contact with the BCCI and the Indian board was not aware of his whereabouts or what he was doing.

The player had left the tour of South Africa midway for a mental break and has not played cricket since then. His last appearance had come during the T20I series against Australia at home after the 2023 ODI World Cup. Before that, he was constantly traveling with the team for the Caribbean tour, the Asia Cup and other bilateral affairs.

Kishan had reportedly asked for a mental health break after the World Cup, but the board refused his request. When Jitesh Sharma was preferred over Kishan in the South Africa T20I series, reports stated that Kishan was unhappy at being benched.

Furthermore, the team management inclined at KL Rahul keeping wickets for the two tests, and Kishan sensing another extended time on the bench, requested a break, and this time the BCCI granted him leave.

Ishan Kishan to take part in DY Patil Tournament to prepare for IPL 2024

The team management has indicated that they wanted Ishan Kishan to play domestic cricket in the ongoing Ranji Trophy ahead of the England test series. However, Kishan missed all five of the Jharkhand matches and lost his chance to stake a claim in the India test team. Dhruv Jurel was selected in his place.

Meanwhile, Kishan moved to Baroda to practice with Hardik and Krunal Pandya for the IPL 2024, and the BCCI was incensed with Kishan opting to ignore the Ranji Trophy, BCCI took a stern decision and mandated all its players to play for their state teams in the Ranji Trophy.

However, as per Dainik Bhaskar, Ishan Kishan is likely to make a comeback to cricket in the DY Patil tournament in Mumbai ahead of IPL 2024. It remains to be seen whether the BCCI will take any action against Kishan for ignoring their directive and not playing any Ranji Trophy cricket.
