Jacob Bethell missed RCB’s last game against SRH.

Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will finish the group stage of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 as league leaders with 18 points, having won 9 and lost 5 of 14 matches. Gujarat Titans (GT) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) also have 18 points in 14 matches; however, RCB have a better net run rate.

The RCB have delivered solid performances throughout the season and are among the top candidates for the IPL 2026 title. With 557 runs, Virat Kohli is Bengaluru’s highest run scorer, while Bhuvaneshwar Kumar currently holds the purple cap with 24 wickets in 14 matches.

RCB have excelled in both departments. Devdutt Padikkal and Rajat Patidar have also scored 433 and 393 runs, respectively. On the other side, Rasikh Salam and Josh Hazlewood have picked up 14 and 12 wickets, respectively. However, the league leaders have suffered a huge blow before the play-offs of the 2026 season.

However, the defending champions have suffered a blow before the play-offs because English batter Jacob Bethell is ruled out of the tournament. The franchise’s official social media account announced that the Englishman has suffered a left ring finger injury.

The statement read:

“Official announcement: Jacob Bethell sustained an injury to his left ring finger during our game against PBKS. He will return to England to be assessed ahead of their Test series. Get Well Soon, JB! We’ll miss having you around.”

The Englishman played 7 matches for RCB, scoring 96 runs at a strike rate of 124, with a highest score of 40. However, another English batter, Phil Salt, is set to return, while Venkatesh Iyer has also given promising performances in the recent matches.

Iyer played an unbeaten 73-run knock against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and then played a 44-run innings against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Friday. Meanwhile, Salt has scored 202 runs in six innings for RCB with a strike rate of 168. He suffered a finger injury, which kept him on the sidelines for almost a month.
