Australia's Jake Fraser-McGurk breaks AB de Villiers' record for fastest century in List A cricket
Australia's Jake Fraser-McGurk broke AB de Villiers' 31-ball century record.
Australia's Jake Fraser-McGurk created a world record in List-A cricket when he went past South African legend AB de Villiers in the list for the fastest century in List-A cricket with his 29-ball century in the ongoing Marsh Cup tournament.
Playing for South Australia against Tasmania at Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide, Fraser-McGurk plundered a 29-ball century while chasing the visitors’ highest total in Australian domestic one-day history of 435.
Tasmania captain Jordan Silk made 116, opener Caleb Jewell made 90, and Macalister Wright made 51 runs as Tasmania hammered 435/9. For South Australia, Brendon Doggett and Wes Agar took three wickets each, while Henry Thornton took 2/85.
Jake Fraser-McGurk opened the batting for South Australia and started taking on the Tasmanian bowlers from the start with nothing to lose, chasing a record total. Henry Hunt (51) played second fiddle as Jake Fraser-McGurk hammered bowlers to all parts of Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide.
Jake Fraser-McGurk’s unbelievable hitting stuns Tasmania in the powerplay overs
In the third over, he unleashed a furious display of ball-striking, taking 32 off Sam Rainbird's second over of the innings, including four sixes and two fours. Fraser-McGurk reached his 50 in just 18 balls, which was the fastest half-century in Australia's one-day domestic competition, breaking Glenn Maxwell's previous mark of 19 balls. He kept his foot on the paddle and smacked three consecutive sixes off Billy Stanlake. He then struck a boundary and a single to bring up his century. His ton came off 29 balls, and the assault continued.
Fraser-McGurk smashed four consecutive fours and a six in the 10th over before falling in the 12th over for 125 in 38 balls with 10 fours and 13 sixes with SA on 172 runs. Jake Fraser-McGurk, with his 29-ball ton, broke the record of AB de Villiers for the fastest List-A century. AB de Villiers had hammered a 31-ball century in an ODI against West Indies in 2015. It still remains the fastest ODI century of all time. Daniel Drew (52), Nathan McSweeney (62), and other batters tried their best, but South Australia finished on 398 and lost by 37 runs.
