James Neesham to retire after the T20 World Cup 2024? Kiwi all-rounder reveals his future plan

James Neesham was the first Kiwi cricketer to opt out of the national central contract.
All-rounder James Neesham is one of the finest match-winners to play for New Zealand cricket team. The 33-year-old player is a regular for New Zealand in the limited-overs cricket. Neesham is currently playing in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL 2024) and representing Rangpur Riders in the tournament. James Neesham has revealed his future plan after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
All-rounder James Neesham revealed that he is not planning big for the future but certainly looking at the big T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies and USA. Neesham will decide about his future in international cricket after the big tournament. Neesham has been a constant member of the the Kiwi squad in the ICC events across formats.
James Neesham talks about his future plan
While addressing press at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Friday, Neesham said, “I don’t take too many long term goals. Obvious goal is the T20 World Cup coming up in couple of month’s time and try to win that for New Zealand. After that, probably I will take a pause and have a think about my international future whether I will keep playing for New Zealand or I will go for full time T20s.”
James Neesham also said that he will assessing his fitness and look at how long he can play in international cricket. He added, “I think as an all-rounder, you played until 35-36 years of your age, is a pretty good effort. So I will try to stay as fit as it can and stay in good shape. Hopefully, I will stay injury free and see how long I can play cricket and contribute to winning teams.”
James Neesham was the first international cricketer to opt out of a national central contract. Neesham will be credited to bring the league culture in cricket as several of the senior cricketers have now followed Neesham and opted out of central contracts to play in the T20 leagues around the world. Neesham has played 12 tests, 76 ODIs and 72 T20Is for New Zealand.
