Jasprit Bumrah picked two wickets in the first over against Ireland on his international comeback.

Jasprit Bumrah has made a significant mark on cricket history by leading team India in the first of the three-match T20I series against Ireland. His highly anticipated comeback to the field is taking place during the series against the Irish team. It’s worth noting that Bumrah hasn’t played competitive cricket since September 2022.

Today marks a milestone for Jasprit Bumrah as he takes on the role of captain for the first time in T20I matches. He is leading the men in blue in the series against Ireland. Many regular players, including the captain Hardik Pandya and vice-captain Suryakumar Yadav, are not playing in this series due to rest. Given the absence of several senior players, the selectors have chosen Bumrah to take on the responsibility. This is especially significant as Bumrah is returning to international cricket after an 11-month break.

Bumrah is the first frontline bowler to lead India in the shortest format of the game. Up to this point, India has had 10 captains in T20Is. Among these leaders, 9 have been frontline batters, and Pandya is the only all-rounder in this group.

The fitness of Jasprit Bumrah holds immense significance for India, given his return from injury. He plays a pivotal role in the team’s setup, particularly with the upcoming Asia Cup and the World Cup on the horizon. Bumrah’s form and physical condition will be crucial factors in India’s performance in these important tournaments.
