Jasprit Bumrah equaled the record held by Javagal Srinath.
Jasprit Bumrah equaled the record for being the fastest pacer to 50 test wickets in India, during the ongoing first test against the West Indies. The first of the two tests got underway at the Narendra Modi International Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 2.
West Indies captain Roston Chase won the toss and chose to bat first. Johann Layne and Khary Pierre made their test debuts for the West Indies team, while Nitish Kumar Reddy and Kuldeep Yadav made their test returns to the Indian team.
Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah were all over the West Indies batting, as openers Tagenarine Chanderpaul (0) and John Campbell (8) were out early.
The West Indies batting offered minimal opposition, with skipper Chase scoring 24 and Shai Hope scoring 26 runs. Justin Greaves, the all-rounder, stood tall and hit 32 runs, including four fours, keeping Bumrah and Siraj at bay for a spell.
But the West Indies were bowled out for 162 runs, with Mohammed Siraj taking 4/40 and Jasprit Bumrah taking 3/43. Kuldeep Yadav took 2/25, while Washington Sundar took one scalp.
Jasprit Bumrah equals Javagal Srinath’s record

Jasprit Bumrah was the standout bowler despite Siraj’s four wickets. Bumrah made the ball move both in the air and off the pitch, troubling the West Indies batters. He picked up three wickets in John Campbell, Justin Greaves, and Johann Layne.
With these wickets, Jasprit Bumrah achieved another milestone in his already famous career. He equaled the record for the shortest time it took an Indian fast bowler to reach 50 test wickets at home. He accomplished the milestone in 24 innings, a record he now shares with Javagal Srinath.
However, Srinath required further deliveries to get there. Following them are Kapil Dev (25 innings), Ishant Sharma (27 innings), and Mohammed Shami (27 innings).
