Jasprit Bumrah bowling 7 overs per day at NCA nets, Still no timeline on his return - Reports

India's premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been out of action since September 2022.

Jasprit Bumrah, the ace pacer of the Indian team, is making terrific progress at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, as reportedly he is bowling seven overs per day during his rehab without any issues.

This is very good news for the Indian team fans looking forward to the 2023 World Cup with optimism.

The schedule for the World Cup 2023, which is to be played in India, was released by the ICC on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.

In March, Bumrah underwent surgery in New Zealand to treat a chronic backache, and he has since been on the road to recovery. In September 2022, Bumrah made his final appearance for India against Australia in a home T20I.

When will Jasprit Bumrah join the Indian team again? The injured pacer and the medical staff are unable to provide a conclusive response to that.

"For an injury of this nature, it is not wise to set any timeline as constant monitoring is necessary. But it can be said that Bumrah is recovering well and he has bowled seven overs at NCA nets. It is a steady increase in his workload from the light workouts and bowling sessions of the initial period.

"He will play a few practice matches (at NCA) next month, and there will be a close assessment of his fitness then," a source tracking the development told PTI.

India has the Asia Cup 2023 and the Ireland T20I series before that if they want to give Jasprit Bumrah some time to settle back into international cricket before the World Cup.

Jasprit Bumrah should not be hurried, demands of international cricket are different: Ramji Srinivasan

Ramji Srinivasan, a former fitness and conditioning coach for Team India who has worked closely with Jasprit Bumrah and was a significant factor in Hardik Pandya's return to cricket, has advised against hurriedly reintroducing the pacer to international cricket.

"He should not be hurried. Playing practice matches at the NCA is a good step as it will help tune his body to the demands of a match. But he should be made to play in some actual (domestic) matches before bringing him to top-level cricket.

The demands of international cricket are different and the body should be absolutely ready to take that amount of workload. Recovering from a stress fracture is a delicate exercise and Bumrah should be allowed maximum recovery time," Ramji told PTI.

The Indian team will be eager to get their trump card back fully fit as Bumrah might be the game changer for them in the Asia Cup 2023 and the World Cup 2023.
