Jasprit Bumrah picked a five-wicket haul in the first innings of first test against England.

India Cricket Team are undergoing training sessions for the upcoming second test against England Cricket Team, scheduled to commence from July 2 at Edgbaston, Birmingham. With game around the corner, pacer Jasprit Bumrah is also on the verge of breaking one of Ravichandran Ashwin’s records during the second test.

Bumrah came up a magnificent performance in the first test at Headingley, Leeds. The right-arm pacer grabbed a five-wicket haul in the first innings. While his teammates struggled to outplay the England batters, Bumrah provided his team with the crucial breakthroughs. In the second innings, he went wicketless as England batters played against him with caution during the 371-run chase.

Bumrah also broke some records during the Headingley test. The right-arm pacer surpassed former Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram to become the Asian bowler with the most wickets in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia). He also became the first Asian bowler to grab 150 wickets in SENA countries.

Notably, Bumrah has a chance of breaking a crucial record of Ravichandran Ashwin in the next test against England. The senior Indian pacer can surpass Ashwin for the most number of five-wicket hauls in ICC World Test Championship (WTC) history.

Both Ashwin and Bumrah have taken 11 fifers in ICC WTC history. In the first test at Headingley, Bumrah equalled Ashwin’s record with his figures of 5/83 in the first innings. Now, he can overtake Ashwin if he replicates his heroics in the next game.

Meanwhile, some reports claim that Bumrah might be rested in the Edgbaston test, however, there has been no confirmation about the same. The 31-year-old will only play three games out of the five tests during the series to manage his workload.

On the other hand, England have added Jofra Archer in their squad for the second test. The right-arm pacer returns to the tests after a gap of four years. England lead the five-match test series 1-0. They have never lost a test match against India at Edgbaston. Out of eight games in the past at the venue, England snatched victories in seven matches, while one ended in a draw.
