India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been named as the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2024 by the ICC and has been honoured with the prestigious Sir Garfield Sobers award.
Bumrah beat England’s Harry Brook and Joe Root and Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis to win this award. He is the first Indian to be named the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year since Virat Kohli in 2018, and is the fifth Indian overall to claim this award after Rahul Dravid (2004), Sachin Tendulkar (2010), Ravichandran Ashwin (2016) and Virat Kohli (2017, 2018).
Bumrah dominated all series he played in 2024. He played test cricket and the his only T20I competition last year was the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, where he bagged the Man of the Tournament award. He didn’t play any ODI cricket last year.
He was simply outstanding whenever and wherever he played last year. He looked like taking a wicket every time he ran in to bowl.
Currently, the No. 1 ranked ICC test bowler, Bumrah became the fastest Indian pacer to reach 200 test wickets last year. He did it with a below-20 bowling average – the best in the history of test cricket.
