Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to a back injury.

The Indian Cricket Team made history on Sunday, March 9, by winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. With this win, they became most successful side in the tournament’s history with three titles, one more than Australia.

What makes this victory special is the fact that they achieved it without their best fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah had a historic campaign in Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25, which saw him take 32 wickets at an average of 13.

However, the series ended on a bad note as he injured his back during the fifth and final test in Sydney. He was initially named in India’s provisional squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, but later he couldn’t clear fitness tests and hence got ruled out of the tournament.

In his absence, India decided to go with four spinners in the playing XI: Ravindra Jadeja, Varun Chakravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel. The decision paid off as the Dubai pitch offered great assistance for the slower bowlers.

The 31-year-old has now congratulated the Indian team through social media.

The Indian speedster took it to his social media to congratulate the Indian team on their historic triumph. Bumrah noted that the team played like true champions and were deserving winners of the tournament.

He wrote, “Played like true champions! Congratulations to the entire team on a wonderful tournament and a well deserved win!“

The Indian management will closely monitor Bumrah’s recovery and hope that the premium fast bowler can return to his best for the five-match test tour of England from June.

He is reportedly expected to miss the first two weeks of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 and will be available for Mumbai Indians from the second week of April.
