Jasprit Bumrah wil be a key member for India in the T20 World Cup 2026.

Premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, as per the reports in Indian Express, is all set to miss the clash against the United States of America (USA). With this news, India’s preparations for their opening match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 have hit an early hurdle. The match is scheduled to be played at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday, but Bumrah‘s unavailability will leave a massive void in the XI.

The reports claimed that Jasprit Bumrah is suffering from a viral fever and will be rested as a precautionary measure. According to sources, the Indian team management is unwilling to take any risks with Bumrah so early in the tournament.

Although the ace pacer was present at the stadium on the eve of the match, he did not participate in training, further strengthening the likelihood of his absence from the playing XI.

In Bumrah’s absence, Mohammed Siraj is expected to slot straight into the XI. Siraj was drafted into the squad at the last moment after Harshit Rana was ruled out due to a knee injury. Siraj’s inclusion provides India with a like-for-like pace option, although Bumrah’s experience and death-over expertise will undoubtedly be missed.

On the batting front, India are set to reshuffle their top order, with Ishan Kishan likely to open the innings alongside Abhishek Sharma. Kishan impressed during the warm-up fixture against South Africa, scoring a fluent fifty while opening the batting. His recent form further strengthens his case, having scored 103 while batting at one-down against New Zealand in India’s last T20I outing at Trivandrum.

With Sanju Samson struggling for consistency, the team management appears keen to back Kishan higher up the order. The move signals India’s intent to start their World Cup campaign on a positive note despite the early fitness setbacks.

Jasprit Bumrah’s unavailability leaves India with a thin squad for their T20 World Cup 2026 opener, as all-rounder Washington Sundar is also yet to regain full fitness. Sundar is currently at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru and is awaiting final clearance before joining the team. As a result, India will have just 13 fully fit players available for selection against the USA.

As India prepare to face the USA, the focus will remain on managing player workloads while ensuring a strong start to their T20 World Cup 2026 journey.
