With his three wickets against the Proteas, Bumrah has become India’s highest wicket-taker in T20 World Cup’s history. He overtook Ravichandran Ashwin, who picked 32 wickets in his career.

Bumrah now has 33 scalps across 22 games in the tournament’s history at an average of 13.36 and an economy of 5.42.

From 2012 to 2022, Ashwin picked 32 wickets in 24 games in T20 World Cup‘s history. Bumrah has leapfrogged him in just 22 matches from 2016 to 2026.

Also, with his two wickets against South Africa, pacer Arshdeep Singh has equalled Ashwin’s tally. The left-arm pacer has 32 scalps in 18 games. The next Indian bowlers in the list are Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja.

Meanwhile, Bumrah has taken seven wickets in four games in T20 World Cup 2026 so far at an average of 9.85 and an economy of 5.30. He missed the opening game against the USA due to illness but was part of the remaining matches.
