ENG vs IND: Jasprit Bumrah released from the India squad for the fifth test against England at The Oval

Jasprit Bumrah picked 14 wickets in the ENG vs IND test series.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah from India’s squad for the ongoing fifth test against the England Cricket Team. The match between the two teams is taking place at The Oval in England. 

Jasprit Bumrah didn’t feature in the playing XI for the final game of the series. He was rested to manage his workload as it was decided ahead of the series that he would be playing only three games in the series as his body won’t allow him to take much toll. 

Bumrah played the first, third and fourth games of the series. He impressed many with his heroics as he picked 14 wickets in three games, which is the joint-most by an Indian bowler in the ongoing five-match series along with Mohammed Siraj. 

With the series on the line, Bumrah was expected to play in the final game. However, that wasn’t the case as India made four changes to their XI for a game, which is a must-win for them in the context of the series.

The BCCI released the official statement on the fast bowler, saying: 

“Mr Jasprit Bumrah has been released from India’s squad for the fifth Test of the series against England. The fifth and final Test of the series is underway at Kennington Oval, London.” 

India’s updated squad for the fifth Test:  

Shubman Gill (C), KL Rahul (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Kuldeep Yadav, Anshul Kamboj, Arshdeep Singh, N Jagadeesan (WK) 

Coming to the ongoing game, India was asked to bat first and they had a tough outing with the bat, losing six wickets on day one. Karun Nair was the star with the bat as he hit a gritty fifty.
