"He gave me lot of security.." Jasprit Bumrah on leadership styles of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni

Jasprit Bumrah made his ODI and T20I debuts under MS Dhoni and test debut under Virat Kohli.

Indian cricket team ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah has shed light on the different captaincy styles of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and MS Dhoni. Notably, Bumrah is one of the few players who have played under all three great skippers.

The right-arm speedster made his ODI and T20I debuts under Dhoni in 2016 and test debut under Kohli in 2018. Bumrah rose in stature under Kohli’s captaincy. The 30-year-old has been enjoying great success under Rohit’s leadership in the last couple of years.

Rohit connects emotionally with players: Bumrah

The 30-year-old Bumrah expressed his thoughts on playing under Rohit at Mumbai Indians and the Indian cricket team. He said that Sharma is one of the few skippers who has a soft corner for bowlers. Bumrah also hailed Rohit’s ability to connect with players on emotional levels.

“Rohit is one of the few captains who has empathy towards bowlers, despite being a batter. Rohit is not rigid; he is open to feedback,” Bumrah told The Indian Express.

Virat is still a leader: Bumrah

Bumrah talked about Kohli’s incredible energy levels when he was the skipper. The senior pacer further talked about Kohli’s involvement with the Indian side as a leader even after stepping down.

“Virat is energy-driven, passionate, and wears his heart on his sleeves. Now Virat is not the captain, but he is still a leader. Captaincy is a post, but a team is run by 11 people,” Bumrah added.

Dhoni doesn’t believe in overplanning: Bumrah

Bumrah also shared his experience of playing under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. The 30-year-old added that Dhoni had immense faith in his instinct and didn’t believe in overplanning.

“MS gave me a lot of security quickly. He has a lot of faith in his instinct and doesn’t believe in over-planning,” Bumrah remarked.
