Jasprit Bumrah has been out of action since September last year.

Jasprit Bumrah will be an important cog in the Indian team as they prep for the ICC World Cup 2023 tournament, opined former India opener Wasim Jaffer. The World Cup will begin in India on October 5 with England taking on New Zealand in the tournament opener in Ahmedabad.

Jasprit Bumrah suffered from a back stress fracture on the tour of England last year and only briefly returned to play two T20Is against Australia. He then suffered a re-occurrence of stress fracture and missed the T20 World Cup, the Asia Cup, and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Bumrah underwent surgery early this year to rectify issues in his back and recently was seen bowling at full tilt in nets in the NCA in Bengaluru. The BCCI also gave a positive update about his medical condition that the Gujarat pacer was back to full fitness and it will be tested in a couple of practice matches.

Former India batter Wasim Jaffer reckoned that speedster Jasprit Bumrah will have a vital role in the 2023 Cricket World Cup.

He added that everyone is missing the 29-year-old's bowling in crucial innings because he is a vital component of India's bowling assault. He said that if he bowled at the same pace upon his return, there wouldn't be anyone better than him.

"He is a huge part of the bowling attack. I feel he will have an extremely important role in the World Cup. We are missing him in death bowling. We have missed him this entire year. However, he needs to come back to fitness, and there will be a question mark whether he will be able to bowl the same way, at the same pace. If does that, there can't be anything better than that," Jaffer said on JioCinema.

Bumrah is extremely important, not for one, but all formats: Ishant Sharma

Ishant Sharma also discussed Jasprit Bumrah's importance to India at the upcoming World Cup. The 34-year-old said the speedster can be an important player for India in all forms and that he has to get back in shape.

"He is extremely important, not for one, but all formats. However, keeping the World Cup in mind, he is a very important player. He has won India so many matches in tough conditions. He is a senior player as well. He captained the side in a Test match as well. So according to me, Jasprit Bumrah will remain the leader of the pack in the World Cup. So it is extremely important for him to get fit," said Ishant.

Reports have stated that Jasprit Bumrah will make his India comeback on the tour of Ireland.
