Indian team might see a huge boost in confidence for the Asia Cup 2023 which is slated to begin on August 31 and will be played in Pakistan and Sri Lanka, as pacer Jasprit Bumrah and batter Shreyas Iyer are eyeing their return to the field.

Jasprit Bumrah has been out of action since the tour of England last year apart from a brief appearance against Australia in September 2022, as he battled recurring back stress fractures which also led to him missing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series and the IPL 2023 as well.

Shreyas Iyer, on the other hand, missed the two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and IPL 2023, as he suffered a lower back injury during the Test series.

Bumrah had back surgery in New Zealand in March and Iyer underwent back surgery recently in London to rectify their issues and are yearning to return to the Indian team shortly. Both the cricketers are at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for their respective rehabilitation.

In March, Bumrah underwent surgery in New Zealand for a recurrent back issue. Since the domestic T20Is against Australia in September of last year, he has not played. Bumrah, who reportedly mainly doing rehabilitation, has lately begun light bowling workloads that will progressively rise.

Shreyas, troubled by a bulging disc in his lower back, is doing physiotherapy after undergoing his back surgery.

The next big event for India is the Asia Cup 2023 which will be played from August 31 in Pakistan and Sri Lanka and will be played in the ODI format. And the NCA medical staff is optimistic about both players being available for the Asia Cup in September.

India is expected to be grouped with Pakistan and Nepal with Pakistan hosting four games and India playing all of its matches in Sri Lanka.
