Jasprit Bumrah picked a fifer in the first innings of the first test against England in Leeds.

In what has been the latest development, as per the reports in the Indian Express, it is learned that Jasprit Bumrah won’t be featuring for the Indian Cricket Team in the second test against the England Cricket Team. The game between the two teams will take place at Edgbaston in Birmingham on 2nd July.

The reports claimed that Jasprit Bumrah will be rested for the second game to manage his workload and keep him fresh for the third game, which will be played at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London from 10th July. The Lord’s game is always considered a high-stakes match because of the history of the ground.

Even before the series started, it was already decided that Jasprit Bumrah would play just three games in the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy. This is because team management wants to focus on his workload and doesn’t want to push him to the limits, which his body won’t allow.

Jasprit Bumrah played all five tests during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, which took place in Australia. He bowled more than 150 overs in the series but got injured in the last game at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney. After that, he was out of the action for around four months.

Jasprit Bumrah bowled 44 overs across two innings in the first test against England

In the most recent test against England at Headingly in Leeds, Jasprit Bumrah bowled 44 overs across two innings. He looked lethal in the first innings as he bagged a fifer, his 14th in tests. Although he bowled tight lines and lengths in the second innings, he didn’t take a single wicket.

With reports suggesting that Jasprit Bumrah is not in the scheme of things for the next game, this makes things automatically difficult for India, who are already 1-0 down in the series. The pacer was by far the best bowler for his team in Leeds, while the rest struggled badly.

One of the major reasons behind India’s poor outing in the Leeds test was the lack of support for Jasprit Bumrah. Despite scoring 471 and 364 across two innings, they failed to win the game, which says a lot about the struggles of the bowlers.

The likes of Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur failed to make an impact, and hence, the headache will be more for the team management going into the second game. With Bumrah not expected to play, Arshdeep Singh could get his debut cap, or Akash Deep might come into the XI.
