Jasprit Bumrah was replaced by Akash Deep in the Indian XI for the second ENG vs IND test.
The Indian Cricket Team surprised many with their team selection for the ongoing second test against the England Cricket Team at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah didn’t play as the management decided to rest him to manage his workload going ahead into the series.
Jasprit Bumrah, who is scheduled to play just three games in the ongoing five-match series against England, played a vital role in the first game. He bagged a fifer in the first innings and then looked threatening in the second innings as well, even though he didn’t take any wickets.
With a more than a week gap between the two games, it was expected that Jasprit Bumrah would play the match. Also, Indian management confirmed that the fast bowler is fit to play, but they will be taking the call after assessing the wicket.
But on the match day, the outcome was that Jasprit Bumrah was rested and Akash Deep replaced him in the XI. Even skipper Shubman Gill at the toss mentioned that Bumrah is fit, and his statement didn’t go well with many fans and pundits, who lashed out at the team management for their poor decision.
Jasprit Bumrah to play third against England at the Lord’s
With Jasprit Bumrah not featuring in the playing XI against England for the second test, there have been a lot of speculations if he will be there for the third game, which will he played at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London from 10th July. However, skipper Shubman Gill himself mentioned that they want fast bowler to be fit for the third game.
Speaking at the toss, Shubman Gill said that the decision to rest Jasprit Bumrah for the second test came in the wake of bowling-favoured conditions that will be there at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. He said:
“No Bumrah. Just to manage his workload. We did get a good break and this is an important match for us. But the third Test being at Lord’s, we think there’ll be more in that pitch so we’ll use him there.”
By the looks of it, India’s bowling looks fragile in the ongoing match. They struggled with the ball in the first match and with no Bumrah here, they will face a tough challenge.
