Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj have rattled the Sri Lankan top-order.

Sri Lanka have got off to a troubled start against India at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Indian pacers have picked up early wickets to give Sri Lanka a big jolt in their run chase. Jasprit Bumrah bowled a magnificent first delivery to trap Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka in front of the wicket and India got their first breakthrough in the first ball of the innings. Indian batters had a terrific outing with the bat and posted 357 runs in 50 overs.

Playing at his second home turf, Jasprit Bumrah was on target for the first ball. Jasprit Bumrah delivered one on fuller length that was angling into Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka. Nissanka was deceived by Jasprit Bumrah's bounce and pace that climbed up and hit on his knee. The umpire took no time in raising his finger but Nissanka was not sure as the ball hit him a little high on his leg. He straight away signalled for the DRS. Jasprit Bumrah became first ever Indian bowler to take a wicket on the first ball of team innings in the history of ODI World Cup.

Nissanka's wicket made top-order collapse

Pathum Nissanka moved to the back foot to play across but he missed the line of the ball completely. The third umpire also ruled him out on Umpire’s call as the ball was clipping the bails and the umpire had raised his finger. Nissanka’s approach was negative, playing the opening ball of the innings, and that made the Sri Lankan top-order collapse against the Indian pacer. Nissanka walked back on the first ball of the Sri Lankan innings.

Soon after Nissanka’s wicket, Mohammed Siraj picked up 3 wickets in his 2 overs. Siraj dismissed opener Dimuth Karunaratne trapped in front on duck, castled captain Kusal Mendis on just one run, and Sadeera Samarawickrama was caught at the third slip by Shreyas Iyer on duck. Sri Lanka have lost 4 wickets in just 7 runs in the first 5 overs of their innings. They need 358 runs to win the game and remain in the race for the top 4 in the World Cup 2023.

Team India posted 357 runs with the help of a few big knocks from Shubman Gill (92), Virat Kohli (88) and Shreyas Iyer (82). Team India also got off to a troubled beginning with Rohit Sharma being dismissed in the second ball of the innings. Later on, Virat Kohli (88) and Shubman Gill (92) added 189 runs for the second wicket and took India towards recovery. Shreyas Iyer with a 56-ball cameo for 82 runs provided a thrilling finish.
