Pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah was seen in a little discomfort after he twisted his ankle in his first over. Similarly, tensions arose in the Indian camp as well as in captain Rohit Sharma’s face. Jasprit Bumrah twisted his ankle
Team India have just recovered from a long list of injuries before Asia Cup 2023. It was after a long gap that India’s full-strength squad entered the field in an ODI. Jasprit Bumrah suffered a back injury and was away from the action for about 11 months. Bumrah underwent surgery in March. Team India can’t afford to lose any of their 15 members for the World Cup in 2023. Bumrah similarly raised tensions among Indian fans when he flew back to Mumbai from Colombo just before the league game against Nepal.
He came back soon after the birth of his son, Angad, leaving behind all the injury concerns that were raised. Luckily, after twisting his ankle against Sri Lanka, Bumrah immediately left behind all the discomfort he had and ran up to bowl again. Jasprit Bumrah bowled five overs in his opening spell and picked up two wickets. He got Pathum Nissanka (6) in the first ball of the second over. Later on, Bumrah picked up wicket-keeper Kusal Mendis (15), caught by Suryakumar Yadav in his 4th over.
Apart from Jasprit Bumrah, wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul stayed away from action for about 4 months due to a calf injury, and Shreyas Iyer missed action for about 6 months due to a back injury. Iyer is still not fully fit, as he is out of the playing XI due to back spasms. Sri Lanka are chasing 214 runs to win the game and improve their position in the race for the final on September 17. India posted 213 runs on the board. Dunith Wellalage was the star for Sri Lanka in bowling with his 5-wicket spell.
