Jasprit Bumrah will lead India’s pace attack against England in the test series.
The Indian Cricket Team will lock horns with the England Cricket Team in a five-match test series, slated to commence with the opening game on June 20. The first test will be played at Headingley Stadium in Leeds. Shubman Gill is the captain of India in the series, while Ben Stokes will be leading England.
Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah will lead the team’s pace attack against the hosts, England. Notably, the right-arm pacer showed an incredible form in the previous test series against Australia down under, earlier this year. With 32 wickets in five matches, including three five-wicket hauls, he dominated the opposition team.
Bumrah also won the player of the series award in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. Now, he will look to replicate his heroics during India’s tour of England 2025. He will be joined by experienced pacer Mohammed Siraj in the pace department. However, the other three pacers- Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, and Arshdeep Singh are quite inexperienced in the red-ball format.
Jasprit Bumrah eyes to break Wasim Akram’s record in SENA countries
Moreover, Jasprit Bumrah can achieve a massive feat during the England series to script his name in the record books. The former India vice-captain is on the verge of becoming the Asian bowler with the most wickets in SENA countries. Former Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram currently holds the record with 146 wickets in 32 tests.
Bumrah accounts for 145 wickets from 31 tests at the moment. The 31-year-old has captured 64 wickets in 12 matches in Australia, 37 scalps in nine games in England, six wickets across two encounters in New Zealand, and 38 scalps in eight tests in South Africa.
Overall, Bumrah has 205 wickets in 45 test matches in his career. Additionally, he can also become the first Asian bowler to capture 150 wickets in the SENA nations. Notably, Indian selectors have stated that the senior pacer will only play three tests during the England series to manage his workload and avoid any injury issues.
