Jay Shah resigned as BCCI secretary in November 2024.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to conduct a crucial Special General Meeting (SGM) in January 2025. The meeting will be held to fill two vacant top positions following the resignation of Jay Shah (secretary) and Ashish Shelar (treasurer).

The meeting is expected to be held in Mumbai during the second week of January, with the elections of the new BCCI secretary and treasurer being on the top of the agenda.

Top roles to be filled during BCCI SGM

The urgency of the situation resulted in notices for the meeting being issued just one day before the meeting on December 18. During the meeting, the Apex Council approved the decision to call SGM and suggested BCCI office-bearers to finalize the date and venue.

The details for venue and date are expected to come out by December 20, Friday. As per BCCI regulations, a minimum notice period of 21 days is required to call the meeting, which means the SGM will take place around January 11 or 12.

Notably, Jay Shah resigned as BCCI secretary on November 30, 2024, to take on his new role as the Independent chair of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

To manage the position on a temporary basis, BCCI president Roger Binny used his special powers to assign the secretary’s responsibilities to joint secretary Devjit Saikia.

Following Jay’s resignation the BCCI treasurer Ashish Shelar also resigned after being appointed to the Maharashtra Government under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

The Indian cricket board is going through a critical situation with important decisions being made regarding cricket relations with Pakistan. In a key decision, the ICC stated that all India vs. Pakistan cricket matches in ICC events, hosted by the two countries, will be played at neutral venues till 2027.
