Jayden Seales has been fined 15 percent of his match fees.
The West Indies Cricket Team pacer Jayden Seales has been fined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for his aggressive send-off to Pat Cummins in the ongoing first test against the Australia Cricket Team. The first test of the three-match series is taking place at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados.
The incident occurred in the 55th over of Australia’s first innings on day 1. After dismissing the Australian captain, Jayden Seales pointed towards the dressing room. As a result, the ICC found him breaching Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.”
Hence, the Caribbean pacer has been fined 15 percent of his match fees and also handed one demerit point. Seales showed a wonderful bowling show for the hosts in the first innings as he scalped a five-wicket haul.
Did not mean anything: Jayden Seales on send-off gesture against Pat Cummins
Speaking about the incident, the West Indies pacer said that he didn’t mean anything against Cummins and it was just out of frustration.
“It did not really mean anything and it was more a bit of frustration. Pat hit a couple of good shots off me and I just showed him where the dressing room was and there wasn’t really anything in it,” he was quoted as saying by ICC.
Talking about the first test between West Indies and Australia, the home side pacers delivered a brutal attack in the first innings to bundle out Australia for 180. While Seales hunted five wickets, Shamar Joseph captured a four-wicket haul. Travis Head (59) was the only Australian batter to score a fifty.
Later, the hosts were bowled out for 190 in the first innings, gaining a 10-run lead. Roston Chase (44) and Shai Hope (48) were the top run-getters from their team as none of the West Indies batters could reach a half-century.
For Australia, pacer Mitchell Starc hunted three wickets while Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, and Beau Webster clinched two wickets each. At the stumps of day 2, Australia were 92/4 in the second innings, leading by 82 runs.
