Jaydev Unadkat has returned to India’s ODI playing XI after a long gap of 9 years, 8 months and 11 days.

Once again team India surprised everyone with their tactics against West Indies in a three-match ODI series. After getting beaten by West Indies in the second ODI at Kensington Oval in Barbados, Indian team management especially coach Rahul Dravid came under fire. Fans questioned Team India’s approach and criticised coach Rahul Dravid. In the third ODI again, India made a few changes in the playing XI, Jaydev Unadkat and Ruturaj Gaikwad have been given a chance while Umran Malik and Axar Patel are dropped from the playing XI.

Jaydev Unadkat breaks a rare record with his comeback in ODIs

Pacer Jaydev Unadkat broke a rare Indian record after making his comeback in the India ODI XI. Jaydev Unadkat will play an ODI for Team India after 9 years, 8 months, and 11 days. This is the longest gap for an Indian player to play in two different ODIs for team India. Unadkat broke the record of former Indian all-rounder Robin Singh. Robin made his debut on 11th March 1989 and then played one more game on 18th March. After that Robin got an opportunity to represent Team India on 3rd November 1996.

Jaydev Unadkat last played for team India on 11th November 2013 against West Indies at Nehru Stadium in Kochi. Unadkat has played 7 ODI games in his career. He made his debut in the same year in 2013 against Zimbabwe. Unadkat also holds the record for 2nd longest gap between two test matches for team India. After making his debut in December 2010 against South Africa, he represented India in red-ball cricket after 12 years and 6 days on 22nd December 2022 against Bangladesh.

Team India will be looking to win the final and not lose their winning streak against West Indies in more than a decade. West Indies last won an ODI series against India in 2006 when the Caribbean team defeated India by 4-1 in a 5-match ODI series. Rahul Dravid was captain of that team, and now Rahul Dravid is serving as head coach of Team India. West Indies have equaled the ongoing ODI series 1-1 after winning the second ODI at Kensington Oval in Barbados.
