Jaydev Unadkat, Umesh Yadav passed fit by NCA ahead of ICC WTC Final – Reports
Jaydev Unadkat suffered shoulder injury, while Umesh Yadav suffered hamstring injury in the IPL 2023.
In what is good news for the Indian team ahead of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final, two crucial members of the team for the summit clash - Jaydev Unadkat and Umesh Yadav have been deemed fit by the NCA, reports suggested.
India will be playing in their second consecutive WTC final, this time facing off against Australia in the lookout for their first ICC trophy since the 2013 Champions Trophy. The match will be played at the Oval from June 7-11, 2023.
As per reports in Sportstar, Umesh Yadav and Jaydev Unadkat, who had suffered injuries during the ongoing IPL 2023, have been passed fit by experts at the National Cricket Academy.
For the unversed, Jaydev Unadkat had hurt his shoulder after taking a hard tumble in the nets and was -later ruled out of the tournament and was replaced by the Lucknow Super Giants. He was sent to the NCA for treatment and is now been deemed fit to resume cricketing duties.
On the other hand, Umesh Yadav, who played for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2023, suffered a hamstring injury, during the team’s encounter against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He didn’t play in the rest of the season for KKR.
Indian team has been plagued by injuries in recent times, with several key players missing matches due to various ailments. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer have all been sidelined at different points, leaving the team struggling to find a stable combination.
Multiple Indian team members are to leave for the UK on May 23 to prepare for the WTC final
The report also revealed that 11 cricketers - seven squad members, a reserve, and three support bowlers - along with the India team’s support staff will leave for England on Tuesday to commence the preparation for the World Test Championship final.
The seven squad members include Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav, and Jaydev Unadkat. Mukesh Kumar, who is a reserve, will also depart with the initial group. Three other pacers, Aniket Choudhary, Akash Deep, and Yarra Prithviraj, will also travel as net bowlers for the Indian team.
