Wicket-keeper batsman Jimmy Peirson has earned maiden call-up to the Australia side.

Australia have called up wicket-keeper batsman Jimmy Peirson as a temporary replacement mid-way in the Ashes 2023 in England which begins in June this year.

While Alex Carey is the first-choice wicket-keeper for Australia, Inglis is the back-up in the team but he is set to leave for Perth after the opening Test in Edgbaston on paternity leave. Therefore, the uncapped Peirson has been named as Inglis’ backup in the Australian squad.

Ashes 2023 is set to commence on June 16 with the 1st Test at Edgbaston. A total of 5 Tests will be played during the series. Australian team under skipper Pat Cummins will travel to England for Ashes 2023. England will take on Aussie under skipper Ben Stokes.

Jimmy Peirson is to be back up after Josh Inglis returns home after the first Test of Ashes 2023

Josh Inglis will return home for the birth of his first child after the first Test match leaving Australia without a backup keeper for Alex Carey. Hence the Australian management has called up Jimmy Peirson as a backup till the time Inglis comes back to England.

Peirson, who has 3,024 runs in 101 innings at an average of 34.75 in 65 First Class matches, has been performing well in the Sheffield Shield over the last three seasons and has been rewarded with a call-up. He also scored an unbeaten 128 playing for Australia A in Sri Lanka, powering a chase of 370 in Hambantota.

The 30-year-old also plays in the Big Bash League (BBL) for Brisbane Heat. The right-handed batsman has scored. In his FC career, he scored six centuries and 17 half-centuries.

It should be mentioned that Inglis will only be Australia's backup wicketkeeper in the Ashes 2023. Alex Carey is the team's first-choice wicketkeeper. Peirson, on the other hand, will be on standby once Inglis departs for home.

Ashes 2023 will witness 5 Tests from June 16 to July 31 in England. Ahead of the series, Australia will face India in the crucial ICC World Test Championship final. The WTC final is set to take place in The Oval Stadium in London from June 7-11. The winner will clinch the ICC Test mace.

Australia’s Squad for first two Ashes Tests at Edgbaston and Lord’s:
