Joe Root has not scored a single test century in Australia, with his highest score of 89.

England will face off against Australia in the Ashes 2025-26, which begins with the first test in Perth on November 21. England have not won a test series in Australia on Australian soil since the 2010-11 tour, and all eyes will be on England’s ace batter Joe Root.

A certified great of the modern era of cricket, Joe Root is yet to score a test century in Australia. In 27 innings, across three trips, he has scored nine fifties, with 89 being his highest score. Six weeks remain until the first Ashes test, and Root, who has been playing at an unbelievable level lately, has a great chance to make an impression.

But I feel ready for it. Big series are the ones you want to play in and contribute to,” Root told Sky Sports.

Since his last trip to Australia, Root has been at the top of his game. He has surpassed Rahul Dravid, Jacques Kallis, and Ricky Ponting to become the second-highest run-getter in test cricket this year, with Sachin Tendulkar being the only player above him.

I am a lot more experienced. Joe Root says, free of the captaincy burden, he is at a different place

But, as Root has never played for an England team that has won a test match in Australia; and playing again here will provide its own set of difficulties.

I feel I am in a different place from when I last went out there. I haven’t got the responsibility of captaincy, and I am a lot more experienced. I have had a good couple of years coming in, and I have learned good lessons from my previous tours there as a batter and senior player,” Root said.

In the previous two visits, England lost 4-0, but when Root went to Australia for the first time, they were blanked 5-0. However, given Australia’s recent batting difficulties, there is a good chance that England will win the test series with their Bazball strategy.

I feel that is the opportunity in front of us that we have to chase and grab. If I am doing my role in the team, then personal accolades will come, but it’s not the main focus. It’s about winning that urn back, as it has been a long time since we held it. I feel we have some serious resources to take out there and hit Australia with. Hopefully, we can get that right, so if I am scoring heavily, it gives us a chance,” he added.
