Joe Root was the top-scorer for England in 2019 World Cup.

Playing for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 qualification, England have begun well against Pakistan at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Opener Jonny Bairstow (59) provided a magnificent start to the innings with his half-century knock. England’s top-order looks in great touch as they march closer to 200 with just two wickets down in the 34th over. England’s number 3 Joe Root has been in great touch against Pakistani bowlers and is playing a great anchor role.

Joe Root has also reached a milestone in his career. Joe Root has now become the first player in the history of English cricket to score more than 1000 runs in a World Cup. Before Root, no one from English cricket went on to touch this special milestone in their career. Joe Root took 25 innings to complete 1000 World Cup runs to become the first-ever Englishman with a special record. Root was also part of the 2015 and 2019 World Cups.

Joe Root completes milestone in 25 innings

Former English captain Joe Root became the 28th overall batter to complete 1000 World Cup runs in their career. Joe Root has played 26 World Cup games in his career and batted in 25 innings. Root’s batting average stands above 45 in the mega event. Root has scored three World Cup centuries. Root was the top- scorer for England in the 2019 World Cup and ended up scoring 556 runs in 11 innings with 2 centuries and 3 half-centuries.

Legendary English batter Graham Gooch stands second in the list of most runs scored for England in the World Cup. Gooch scored 897 runs in 21 innings. Graham Gooch represented England in four different World Cup tournaments, starting in 1979 and retiring as runner-up in 1992 in Australia and New Zealand. Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar is the leading run-scorer in the Cricket World Cup, with 2278 runs in 44 innings for India in six different editions.

England are cruising towards a big total against Pakistan at Eden Gardens. Ben Stokes is taking on Pakistan bowlers brilliantly and marching towards his second consecutive hundred in the World Cup 2023. Ben Stokes smashed his first-ever World Cup ton against Netherlands at MCA Stadium in Pune just a few days ago. England needs to win this game to secure their place in the next biggest 50-over international event.
