Jofra Archer returned to the England test setup after four years.

The England Cricket Team batter Joe Root heaped rich praise on teammate Jofra Archer following his comeback. The right-arm pacer returned to test cricket after four years in the ongoing third test against the Indian Cricket Team.

The encounter is currently underway at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. On day two, Archer got success in his first over after his test comeback. He dismissed India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal to provide his team with the early breakthrough in the first innings.

Although Archer could only get one wicket on day two, he showed a good rhythm, bowling tight lines and lengths. He also dominated Indian batters with his deadly bouncers. India have lost three wickets after crossing 200 runs on the scoreboard in the first innings on day three.

England test specialist Root has lauded Archer after his comeback to tests. He said that Archer adds a great impact to the dressing room and the field. He also called Archer an X-factor player.

“It was class, wasn’t it? Just the genuine joy of seeing him back playing Test cricket. Taking that wicket, making things happen — the impact he adds to the group is huge in the dressing room and also out on the field,” he said to the reporters after the match.

“He is an X-factor player, and he’s shown that in white-ball cricket for England and in the IPL. In big games, he turns up and does things that other players can’t. He showed that again today,” he added.

Root also said that Archer compliments England’s pace attack, and it was nice to see him take a wicket at the start of the innings.

“One thing you will say about it is that he complements the rest of the attack. At different points throughout the game, they’re going to have to work together to take 20 wickets if we are to win this game,” Root said.

“It’s a nice start for him — great to see him smiling, enjoying his cricket, and making a huge impact right at the start of the innings,” he further added.

Talking about the Lord’s test, England skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bat first. With a century by Root and half-centuries by Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse, England scored 387/10 in the first innings.

For the visitors, pacer Jasprit Bumrah picked up a wonderful five-wicket haul. Mohammed Siraj and Nitish Reddy picked up two wickets each, while Ravindra Jadeja grabbed one wicket.
