Joe Root ended with an unbeaten innings of 166 runs off 139 balls against the West Indies in second ODI.
England batter Joe Root was at his best with the bat during the second ODI of the three-match series against the West Indies Cricket Team. The game between the two teams took place at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on Sunday (1st June).
The Sophia Gardens in Cardiff witnessed a Joe Root masterclass as the right-hander oozed his class with the bat and almost single-handedly won the game for his team. In the chase of 309 runs, the England Cricket Team came under massive pressure and were left tottering at 133 for five.
Joe Root, who walked out to bat at three, held the one end up and made sure that he soaked in all the pressure. The right-hander played the West Indies pacers as well as spinners with utmost ease and made sure that he kept the run rate in check, not letting the opposition take complete charge of the game.
Joe Root first got the support from Harry Brook (47) and then later Will Jacks (49). But, it’s fair to say that it was all about him. The batter looked in complete control of his innings as he notched up a brilliant century and made almost everyone stand and applaud him for his heroics with the bat.
Joe Root remained unbeaten till the end and made sure that he took his team home. The England batter ended with an unbeaten innings of 166 runs off 139 balls, slamming 21 boundaries and two sixes. His knock saw the Harry Brook-led side winning the game by three wickets in the 49th over of the innings as England took an unassailable lead of 2-0.
